An aircraft oil analysis report showing an increase in nickel that prompted a borescope inspection that found three burned exhaust valves.
The first oil analysis for this AEIO-360 prompted the owner to pull a cylinder and inspect the cam/followers, which were found to have failed. The owner believes he narrowly avoided a catastrophic failure, and he had the engine overhauled.
This radial had trouble keeping up with high insolubles, but otherwise the engine is wearing nicely.
The owner of this engine is running the oil long enough that it's overwhelming the oil filter (see high insolubles). Fuel contamination and oil consumption are increasing too, which can point to a ring problem.
This Continental IO-360 engine looks good in testing and has looked good for a long time. Sometimes oil analysis offers peace of mind instead of just notification of problems.
The jump in aluminum in this GO-300 engine's report was the first sign of a problem. Upon closer examination, the owner found a broken piston ring on the #5 cylinder.
This engine's upward trend in aluminum in this C-85 engine prompted the borescope inspections that found a piston pin plug problem.
The very dramatic spike in chrome in this A-65's latest reports shows a severe cylinder problem. Aluminum and iron are excessive as well, showing piston and steel wear.
This IO-550's first report showed high metals throughout, which prompted the owner to inspect more closely. The engine had a failed cam and lobe.
